Bediüzzaman Said Nursi, born in 1878 in the village of Nurs in the Hizan district of Bitlis, was educated at madrassas in his close neighborhoods as a child. Although he had first known as Molla Said the Famous because of his high intelligence and memory, afterwards, he gained fame with the name of “Bediüzzaman” which meant the wonder and unique of its time. He wrote the book Risale-i Nur, an interpretation book explaining the truths of the Qur’an with strong proofs in accordance with the understanding and necessity of the century. He came to his house, currently open to visitors, in Kastamonu in 1936. He trained many students during his stay in the city for more than seven years. He also learned that one of them was Mehmet Feyzi Efendi, whose tomb was still in Kastamonu.
